CULTIVATING AND CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

What does Language Based Learning Disability really mean?

  • Intensive Reading Instruction: Oak Tree Academy is working with a local reading clinic that has a National base, to create an intensive reading program for children in grades 6th through 12th grades. The purpose of this program is to provide intensive, individualized instruction in reading instruction to increase the reading and writing skills of secondary students. The goal of this program is to turn struggling secondary students into to effective readers and writers who can make effective progress with their peers. Please check back for more information as our programs develop, or click here to be updated by email.

  • Professional Development:  At OTA we believe that educating the student is only part of the solution. Our staff is working to create a professional development program for educators who work with students with learning differences. Just like students, one size does not fit all, we believe that professional development within a school should be individualized to fit the unique needs of educators and administrators. We are developing an educational program for Administrators (principals, vice-principals, school committees members, etc) Therapists (speech, occupational, physical, etc.) general education Teachers, and Guidance Counselors. Please check back for more information as our programs develop, or click here to be updated by email.

  • Cape Cod Disability Resource Center: Oak Tree Academy is preparing a proposal and securing a location for a Disability Resource Center. The center will be staffed by a special education advocate who can answer questions about disabilities, programs, and services available for children with special needs in the Southeastern Massachusetts Area.

As the program develops, we will begin offering training for parents to help them understand: basic educational rights, how to read tests and measurements, writing S.M.A.R.T IEP (Individualized Education Plan)  Goals, and Facilitating an educational meeting. Please check back for more information as our programs develop, or click here to be updated by email.
