Is Oak Tree Academy a school?
Oak Tree Academy is not a traditional
school, however, our program development
committee is hard at work on
securing a location for an educational
program for students in grades seven
through twelve. The
committee is working with a national
reading instruction program to
bring a satellite
program to Cape
Cod. If you'd like to be

Who founded Oak Tree Academy and why?
Oak Tree
Academy was founded almost five years
ago by Dawn Warburton. After working for
an advocacy
organization, she believed
that there needed to be a bigger change
in the community. She founded the
organization to help create that change.
For the last four years, OTA's focus has
been on advocacy for
families and
children with special needs. However,
the Board of Directors began to feel
that the community
needed more than just
another advocate; and began working on
creating community collaborations to
help
families, children, and educators
in the surrounding area.
Does Oak Tree Academy have non-profit
status?
The
organization is currently registered
with the state of Massachusetts as an
incorporated non-profit
organization. We
have recently submitted an application
to the IRS to gain 501(c)(3) status.
We are considered a
pending 501(c)(3),
according to the Internal Revenue
Service.
Can I hire an advocate through Oak Tree
Academy?
We currently offer advocacy and neutral
facilitation. If you choose to hire and
OTA advocate he/she will
work with you
directly to help you understand test
results, IEP Goals and Objectives, and
your child's
disability. If you have
previously worked with an advocate,
unsuccessfully, you might find a neutral
facilitator more appropriate. Neutral
facilitation focuses
on repairing the relationship between
parents and
school districts to help the
team make effective decisions for the
children they represent. Please visit
our
advocacy page for more
information.
For those who live in other parts of the
state, Oak Tree
Academy maintains a list of reputable
advocates
that service families
and children with special needs.
