Advocates and Neutral IEP
Facilitator's work to assist school districts and
parents during meetings when school members and
parents are feeling as though they are not being
heard or that the meetings have become lengthy
and unproductive. The advocator and/or facilitator's work is
to guide the
meeting
process and help develop an effective program
for the student.
A positive outcome is arrived at through the
work of the team, including the school
administrators and staff, and parents and when
appropriate the child being service.
Some examples of how an advocate or neutral facilitator might assist with a Team
Meeting :
Determination of eligibility Development/revision of an IEP
Transition planning
Resolving a rejected IEP Extended Year services
Alternative placement
If you
have unsuccessfully used an advocate in the past, you might find a neutral
facilitator more appropriate.
Below is a list of what a neutral facilitator might assist your child's
education team with.
